Shooting into the sun at traffic lights…

You know that thing that happens in life… when you buy your kids a fantastic new toy, and they end up playing with the box!?!? Well I feel a little bit like that with my Monarch Butterfly caterpillars. I went to the trouble of planting a Swan Plant… and then the little blighters stripped it bare and parked their little Crysalis houses everywhere BUT on the Swan Plant. There are 2 hanging off our Deck (including the one in this pic) another one just hatched from it's hiding place inside one of the legs of our water-play table and 2 found homes on the plant NEXT to the Swan plant… crazy life-cycling times at the Ronberg house I can tell you.

I remember very clearly the only advice I ever got from my Mum about Photography: “Don’t point the camera at the Sun”… so I grew up with the fear that I was going to fry something on the insides of the camera if the sun ever got it’s hulking mass near my camera…

Advance many many years and you will find me quite often shooting into the sun on Purpose… what used to be gross to the eyes of my Baby-Boomer Mum and her peers is now quite acceptable… so our assignment this week is to head out and learn to not fear the flare…

A little like these…

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, and hoping that the Sun plays nice for us this week… A few tips: Sunrise and Sunset will play a lot nicer and the light will be way nicerer. YOu may want to use a bit of flash if you have a subject that you want some light on in the foreground.

Love it or hate it… Graffiti tends to be everywhere. Some form it into art, others use it like a dog uses wees to mark it’s territory… Seeing as lots of photos of dog wees wouldn’t really make a great assignment, we thought that this week we would send you all out to find creative ways to capture Graffiti.

Can’t wait to see what you find!

Beach + sand = much grey/brown

Not sure why I chose that title other than the fact that it says night in it…

On holiday with the whanau in Perth, so no laptop to upload my other pics… Water is scarce in WA… So whatever you find is usually filled with truckloads of people!!!

I have to say… I love Perth a lot… Coldest day we have had in the last 8 days was 29!!! I am still however, prodigiously white-skinned!!!

I am a bit of a night photography junkie… so when there is something that gives me opportunity to get some truly “Long” shutter speeds, you don’t have to ask me twice…

In this instance, I snapped something at home that I quite like – the Southern Cross… It speaks to me of home, well… as much as a constellation can say “Home”.

This shot was taken @f11 (to ensure front to back sharpness) @ISO1600 (To let lots of light in) for 10seconds (you don’t want to go much longer if you want your stars to look like dots… it really doesn’t take long to turn them into star trails).

I am a wee bit obsessed with long-exposure photography – so would you indulge me a little platform to show a few I just found lying around quickly??
